Following legal advice from our Advisor on Constitutional Affairs on more than one occasion exhorting Trustees to convene a meeting of the General Council, the Trustees met on 14 November 2011 at the Muslim College.

At that meeting the Trustees reiterated their trust and confidence in Judge Khurshid Drabu CBE for his advice and requested that he should continue to be the Election Commissioner for MINAB.

It was decided that the Annual General Meeting of the MINAB which has been due since August 2011 would now be held on Sunday 4 March 2012 at Leicester. It was also decided to request Judge Drabu to draw up the dates for Election Schedule as soon as possible so that members will have sufficient time to file returns and respond to communications.

These decisions were conveyed to Judge Drabu after the Trustees meeting and he accepted the re-appointment; thanked the Trustees for their trust and undertook to draw up the date schedule for the elections shortly.

MINAB Condemns the attacks on Christians in Nigeria

The Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board (MINAB) condemns the outrageous suicide terrorist attacks that targeted innocent Christian Nigerian families who were praying in their Churches on Christmas Day. Such attacks are affront to all human and religious values and aim to inspire hate and disrupt the harmony of Christian Muslim community relations, who have co-existed for centuries.

The Chair of the MINAB, Maulana Shahid Raza, OBE, said. "Such barbaric attacks, in the name of Islam on places of worship, is abhorrent and is an attack on all our religious and human values". "We stand united in offering solidarity against targeting communities in Nigeria which aims to destroy community relations and inspire hate and discord”. "We offer our heartfelt condolences to the entire Nigerian nation particularly to the bereaved and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured", he said.

The MINAB calls upon Mosques to pray for peace and harmony in Nigeria and to re-emphasis the Quranic message of protecting places of worship; challenging these extreme views which try to subvert Islam.

Tackling domestic violence

1.InterFaith2011On Wednesday 23rd November 2011 at the Muslim College, the MINAB held a discussion on“The role of faith institutions in tackling domestic violence.”

The aim of the discussion was to grow an awareness of issues surrounding domestic abuse. To work towards creating an environment within the faith institution in Britain in which domestic abuse is understood and recognized as unacceptable and where appropriate responses are available.

The discussion highlighted some of the excellent work being done by local and national faith groups and provided an opportunity for inter faith learning and cooperation. However there was real concern that at times there was apathy, and neglect by institution and faith leaders on this issue.
